Community Spotlight - Neptune Beach, Oceanside Living Fit for the Gods

Are you considering relocating to Northeast Florida? Jacksonville has proven quite popular in the last couple of years. As the oldest city in the US, St. Augustine offers plenty of historic charm. Atlantic Beach provides some of the most beautiful beaches in the entire Northeast Florida region. The quiet seaside city of Neptune Beach is a wonderfully quiet place to live within a short commute of nearby Jacksonville.

Neptune Beach

A Little History

Located directly east of Jacksonville, Neptune Beach sits right on the Atlantic Ocean. It is sandwiched between Jacksonville Beach to the south and Atlantic Beach to the north. Named for the Roman god of the sea, the City of Neptune Beach dates back to the early 1920s, when a local resident decided he did not want to catch the train in Mayport over 15 miles away. Mr. Dan Wheeler learned that if he built a separate station, the train would stop right there in Neptune Beach. Located where the current One Ocean sits, Mr Wheeler built a train station to commute to downtown Jacksonville for work, eliminating his commute to Mayport.

In the 1930’s, Neptune Beach seceded from Jacksonville Beach, completely becoming its own incorporated city. Today Neptune Beach is a community composed of over 7500 residents in a 2.5 square mile radius. With a number of nearby attractions, restaurants and shopping on top of the great beaches and year-round mild climate, Neptune Beach is a great place to call home.

Who Lives Here?

According to Data USA, the median household income is $79,333. Healthcare and social services, retail, and professional, scientific, and technical jobs make up the majority of the workforce. The median age for residents here is 42.2 years old. Niche.com ranks it #15 on its list of Best Suburbs for Young Professionals

Things to Do

As a primarily residential location, public parking is extremely hard to come by. The beaches offer a fantastic way to while away the hours, even during the winter. Pete’s Bar in Beaches Town Center dates back to 1933. In fact, it was the first bar that opened up in Duval County after Prohibition. They offer $0.25 pool tables, $1 foosball and dancing in the streets for you adventurous souls. It’s a cash-only establishment. So, save yourself a hefty non-bank ATM fee and hit up your own bank before you go. Watch the sun go down and the moon rise while sipping the bar’s signature drink (the Lemon Bar Freeze) at the Lemon Bar located in the Seahorse Oceanfront Inn. The bar overlooks the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and is the perfect place for an after-dinner cocktail.
